Ingredients

  • 4 chicken legs (drumstick + thigh)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for a spicy kick)
  • 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

Prep the Chicken

Rinse the chicken legs under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Use a sharp knife to make small slits in the meat—this helps the marinade soak in and ensures even cooking.

Make the Marinade

In a bowl, mix together the olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper until well combined.

Marinate the Chicken

This step has two parts:

  • Rub the marinade thoroughly into the chicken legs, making sure to get it into the slits.
  • Let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes. For deeper flavor, marinate for 2–4 hours or overnight in the fridge.

Preheat the Air Fryer

Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F) for 3–5 minutes.

Cook the Chicken

Place the marinated chicken legs in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they don’t overlap so the air can circulate properly.
Air fry for 20–25 minutes at 180°C (350°F), flipping the legs halfway through for even crisping.

Check for Doneness

Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches at least 75°C (165°F). If you don’t have a thermometer, cut into the thickest part of the leg—the juices should run clear, not pink.

Serving

Remove the chicken legs from the air fryer and let them rest for 5 minutes. This keeps the juices locked in. Serve with a crisp salad, potato wedges, or roasted veggies.

  • Crispy skin: Brush the chicken with a little extra olive oil just before cooking.
  • Extra flavor: Add a splash of lemon juice or sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.
  • Spicier? Increase the cayenne or add 1 tsp of chili powder to the marinade.
